Certified truck driver trainer or instructor
A certified truck driver trainer teaches CDL training to student driver trainee(s) enrolled at a approved CDL training institution how to operate commercial motor vehicles such as a tractor trailer truck. They are in charge of training in the classroom, outdoor skills range training and on the road truck driver training.
Qualifications for becoming a Certified truck driver trainer
To qualify for a position as a certified driver trainer he or she must usually have a minimum of 2 to 3 years of verifiable OTR tractor-trailer truck driving experience, pass a background check, and meet the states certification process. To qualify and become a certified driver trainer the applicant must take exams required by the state he or she holds a valid CDL Class A Driver’s License. All state certification and licensing guidelines are mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), a division of The Federal Department Of Transportation. If a current certified truck driver trainer accepts a job as a certified trainer in another state they will have to transfer their CDL Class A Driver’s License and meet the certification requirements in the new state of employment.
Responsibilities of a Certified CDL Trainer
A certified truck driver trainer instructs student driver trainees how to drive and/or operate a tractor trailer truck or a commercial motor vehicle. A truck driver trainer must have a verified, successful, and extensive truck driving background history with the ability to demonstrate his or her experience. All truck driver trainers must have the ability to teach and communicate with the student driver trainees on how to perform basic and advanced truck driving functions and procedures.
