Commercial Drivers License

For the trucking industry, CDL is the abbreviation for Commercial Drivers License. A commercial drivers license is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration a division of the US Department of Transportation and by your local state department of transportation to operate a commercial motor vehicle on any public roads or highways. Commercial motor vehicles transport consumer goods or cargo from the point of origination to a point of destination. A few examples would be a semi truck or tractor-trailer truck for (hauling consumer products) and a school bus for (transporting students). In addition, certain large tow trucks and taxicabs are commercial vehicles and require the operator to have a commercial drivers license. To obtain a commercial drivers license usually requires training from a certified training institution.

Ther are a number of ways to get your commercial license. You can enroll in a private truck driver training program, company sponsored – paid training program, vocational truck driver training program or you can try to get your cdl license on your own. You should always compare different training programs before making a decision. you must take into consideration not just the cost of the program, but the complete out of pocket cost including travel expenses, lodging expenses, food expenses and any additional charges that you may incur. Many times you will have license fees, drug screen fees and additional studying materials. Then of course you will need extra money for other things such as snacks and a number of other things that you may need while attending your  training program.
