What is a CDL Learners Permit – ( CDL AP Permit )?

A CDL Learners License,(CDL – AP Permit), is a Truck Driver’s Permit that allows the CDL student driver trainee to legally operate a commercial motor vehicle , (tractor trailer truck), as long as a Licensed Class A CDL Driver is in the vehicle supervising. To qualify for the CDL AP Permit, (CDL Learners permit), the applicant must apply through the local State Department of Motor Vehicle Licensing (DMV). Upon meeting the qualifications, the applicant will then take a series written knowledge tests. Once this process has been successfully completed the applicant, (driver trainee), can legally drive a commercial motor vehicle on the roads and highways as long as they are accompanied by a licensed Class A CDL driver. The permit is generally valid for 30 days allowing the applicant enough time to practice and master their driving skills. Finally, the last step is to take the skills test or the Road test. You will go then go to the State Department of Motor Vehicle, (DMV), and take the Road Test. A Certified State examiner or a third party state certified examiner would take you out on the open road grade you on your skills. Once you have past the road test, that is it. The state then issues you A Class A CDL License that entitles you to operate a tractor-trailer truck on the nation’s roads and highway. Your CDL-AP License or your CDL Learners permit is now turned back into the state and rendered useless since you have officially become an official Class A CDL License holder.
